Cingular Joins Symbian's Platinum Partner Program
Symbian Zone added to Cingular's devCentral
It’s no secret that Symbian hasn’t exactly had a great deal of success with their devices in the US market. However, some estimates show that Symbian owns around 70% of the smartphone market worldwide. Regardless of your opinion on why the states have been a bit slow on the uptake, the fact is Symbian will not be able to have much success in the states without the help of US carriers.
However, with their recent addition of Nokia’s 9300 and E62 (based on Symbian Series 80 and Series 60, respectively) Cingular appears to be making a commitment to offer Symbian Smartphones to the US market. Symbian took another step toward acceptance in the states this week by adding Cingular to its Symbian Platinum Partner Program. This will, among other things, make development tools available to Cingular developers through Cingular’s devCentral. One would hope that this means Cingular will be expanding their number of Symbian based devices in the US. I guess only time will tell.
