Exchange Connections 2006

As Microsoft gears up for the releases of Windows Vista, Exchange 2007 and Office 2007, what better way to get the latest info than by attending DevConnections 2006 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. This event (which took place Nov 6-9) is a combination of several smaller events; SharePoint Connections, Exchange Connections, ASP.net Connections, Office Connections …you get the idea. DataViz was a sponsor and exhibitor at the Exchange Connections portion of this shindig. This was mainly to show off the new beta of RoadSync for Series 60 with support for the new Exchange 2007 mobility features, but we also became the breath freshening connection for many attendees with our swag (apparently gum is nearly impossible to find in a casino because people stick it to everything).

Here are a few things we didn’t know, and a reiteration of a few that we did know about Exchange 2007:

- Exchange 2007 RTM date: December 2007

- Unified Messaging: Exchange 2007 will have the ability to combine voicemail, email, fax, etc all in your mailbox. You’ll also have access to messages through a phone using voice commands and send basic messages like “Running Late” or “Out of the Office”

- Improved Outlook Web Access: New UI, add/change 'Out Of Office' message, access to Sharepoint. I tested it out the other day; it’s pretty slick.

- Mobility: Some new features added to Exchange ActiveSync including flagging messages, email search, html email, access to SharePoint files, etc.
