Sony Ericsson Shows Strong Growth In Q4
Sony Ericsson, one of the worlds largest handset manufacturers (and strong player in the smartphone market), released some impressive Q4 numbers this week.
SE shipped 26 million units had volume growth of more than 60% in Q4 (as compared to the same period last year). Pre-tax income soared to over $650 million (a 144% increase from Q4 2005). Looking at 2006 as a whole, Sony Ericsson’s growth rate was double that of the global market rate.
Much of this can be attributed to the success of their Walkman series of phones (like the W950i) as well as their continued success in emerging markets like Latin America and Asia Pacific. Releases of higher end smartphones like the P990 and M600 helped the cause as well.
"The fourth quarter saw Sony Ericsson finish a strong year with record volumes, sales and net income due to the soaring popularity of our imaging and music phones. Earlier investments in R&D and marketing have enabled us to expand the portfolio and strengthen the brand to increase consumer and operator appeal. Our target is to become one of the top three players in the industry, and the momentum we established in 2006 makes this an achievable ambition,” - Miles Flint, President, Sony Ericsson.
