Symbian Watch: Sony Ericsson Interview

SonyEricssonLogo.jpgWith their purchase of UIQ, and the release of some impressive new devices (P990, M600, and W950), Sony Ericsson made a big push in the smart phone market in 2006. Symbian Watch posted an interview with a few folks from SE to get their take on some of the major events of 2006 as well as what’s ahead in 2007. Mats Lindoff (CTO) and Mimmis Olsson (mobile content spokesperson & Communications Manager for SE Developer World) share their thoughts on everything from the UIQ purchase to competing with Nokia and BlackBerry. Here are a few of the high points:

- SE will continue to license UIQ to other manufacturers
- Continued development of SE Developer World
- 10 SE Walkman models sold over 15 million units as of Q3 2006
- Expecting increased home-mobile convergence over the next few years
- Convergence will increase need for new multimedia apps from the developer community

It’s clear that SE believes building the developer community for UIQ will be an important step as mobile content and convergence becomes increasingly more important to the consumer. With one of the biggest wireless shows in the world (3GSM) only a few weeks away, you can't help but wonder what new and exciting stuff they have up their sleeves for early 2007.
