Versamail Update Available
Palm Brings Microsoft's Direct Push Technology to Palm OS Based Treo Smartphones
Palm OS smartphone users who have been patiently waiting for a Versamail update from Palm finally got their wish today as Palm announced an update that will include support for Exchange SP2 features like push email and PIM (also GAL lookup and password enforcement). This update will be available for download starting Monday from Palm’s website.
"Extending Microsoft's Direct Push Technology to the Palm OS based line of Treo smartphones gives business customers a powerful new choice for wireless email, security and manageability. This combination delivers the benefits of business-class email without the cost of additional infrastructure required by other middleware-based solutions, ensuring a fast return on investment as well as a great end-user experience." - Joe Fabris, Director of Wireless Solutions, Palm, Inc.
This update is available for the Treo 680 and 700p smartphones. One thing to note: the press release states that this update is not yet available for Cingular customers. No word at this point on future availability for Cingular customers or folks using older Palm OS smartphones (like the Treo 650). We’ll keep you updated.
