Nokia E62 Reviews

E61.jpg
The Nokia E62 is one of the first Symbian OS based phones to gain some serious traction in the US. While it (and its wifi-enabled brother, the E61) might not be the ‘BlackBerry Killer’ that some thought, it is certainly a formidable opponent.

Since this phone has been available for a few months now, we thought we would compile a few reviews in case you are thinking of picking one up for your next upgrade.

Brighthand.com – Nokia E62 Review “…E62 has some appeal for those who no longer want to use the Garnet-based Palm Treos, while avoiding anything with the name Microsoft on it.”

MSNBC - Nokia E62: The best smartphone ever?
“Nokia’s e62 smartphone is spectacular. There — I said it.”

Mobile Tech Review – Nokia E62
“The E61 is one of our favorite smartphone / PDA phone devices, and the E62 is also near the top of our list… We wish the phone were a little more responsive when opening folders and launching applications.”

CNET editors review – Nokia E62
“The Nokia E62 certainly isn't for everyone, but with its powerful productivity apps, connectivity options, and solid call quality, the smart phone will make a good addition to a corporate user's arsenal.”

My personal opinion is this: As I have said before, when you’re looking for a new phone I believe the first thing you need to do is determine if you need a QWERTY keyboard. Assuming that you do, I don’t really think you can go wrong with the E62. One of the bigger ‘flaws’ people seem to find is the lack of WiFi. But, if you have an unlimited data plan that shouldn’t be a major issue. I guess another issue could be the lack of a camera, however the E-Series phones are designed as business phone, so a camera isn’t as necessary.

Symbian’s Series 60 OS devices offer a nice, organized easy to use interface. It may take some time to get adjusted if you’re coming from the Palm or Windows Mobile world (no touch screen on the E62), but the learning curve is not that steep.

Another thing I like about the E62 is that it’s a phone first, not a PDA. I think this was one of the downfalls of Nokia’s 9300. For me, I use the “phone” part of my smartphone much more than the “smart” part. The E62 offers a solid contact manager and good call quality, which is most important in my book. On top of that, it also gives you the means to keep up on your business needs with document editors and a few push email options, like Mail for Exchange or RoadSync which is great option for a corporate user who needs some extra features.

If you feel like sharing your thoughts or experiences, feel free.
