Palm OS vs. Windows Mobile

A Palm Employee’s Perspective

logo_palm.gifFor those of you who like to keep up with the goings on in Sunnyvale, you’ll be happy to know that Palm, Inc. launched The Official Palm Blog earlier this month. It seems this will be a great opportunity for Palm to keep in touch with former/current/potential customers. It will reportedly cover all things Palm from top to bottom and readers will be free to comment with their opinions, thoughts and suggestions (or complain about a lack of ROM updates, which is what a good portion of commenter’s have been doing thus far).

Earlier this week, Joe Fabris (Director of Wireless Solutions, Palm) shared what he likes best about each of the Treo operating systems (Windows Mobile 5 and Palm OS). Basically his points were that Palm OS wins on ease of application access (specifically through the use of the devices application buttons) and Windows Mobile wins on its multitasking capabilities.

It’s great to see some execs from Palm embracing their new blogging endeavor. I suppose it would be rude to ask Joe to pick his favorite child, but it would be interesting to see some more in depth discussion on his thoughts about the different operating systems (developer preferences, future outlooks, user demographics). I had the good fortune of meeting Joe in Las Vegas a few months ago at an industry event. Wish I could recall which OS he was using at the time…

Who am I kidding; I’m sure he had one – if not two – of each.
