Greg Brown Named New MOTO CEO

Zander will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors

Motorola CEO Greg BrownLast week Motorola announced that their board has appointed Greg Brown as CEO, effective January 1. Current CEO, Ed Zander, will remain Chairman of Moto’s Board of Directors at least until their May shareholder meeting.

This announcement comes just days after Gartner’s report stating Moto has fallen to third (behind Nokia & Samsung) in worldwide handset marketshare.

"Next year marks my 40th year in the technology industry. This is the right time for me to move on to the next phase in my life and spend more time with my family. I am grateful I had the opportunity to lead Motorola over the last four years. It's been a wonderful experience." – Ed Zander, CEO, Motorola Inc.

Brown is currently serving as COO at Motorola. He has been with Moto since 2003 and many analyst seem to think he’s the right man for the job.

"Getting Greg Brown is to improve execution. The company has lacked execution. It requires focus and that's what Greg is here to do. Motorola still has a lot of the right parts to succeed: a good brand, good R&D strength, good engineers… Greg is a good, young executive. There have always been rumors of Motorola being bought out and this signals its intent to remain a standalone company." – Bill Choi, Analyist, Jefferies & Co.
