MOSH Coming to an End
Nokia focusing attention on Ovi
Nokia will be pulling the plug on MOSH (MObilize and SHare) in the near future, likely to focus all of their resources on the Ovi store. MOSH has been a free, uncontrolled haven for users to trade and share content for mobile devices. At 137.6 million downloads (as of this writing) with little to no marketing behind it, MOSH seems to have been a relative success. Its just unclear what the goals were and how it would fit in with Ovi and their other mobile software initiatives. From Reuters:
"We don't know where it exactly goes and we are not entirely in control," one of the founders of the site, George Linardos, told Reuters shortly after it was opened.
Personally I'm kinda sad to see MOSH go. We had some good experiences with a few promotional campaigns for RoadSync on MOSH. It was a nice alternative to the more traditional advertising and branding efforts were used to. With the Ovi store due to launch in May, it will be interesting to see if Nokia uses what they learned from MOSH (good and bad) to help make Ovi competitive against the likes of Apple's App Store and the forthcoming BlackBerry App World.
